Pre-E3 Pre-E3-dictions and Stuff

I thought I'd poop out a few thoughts on the imminent E3 PR farts happening tomorrow, so please excuse my crappy word usage and repetition of shitty toilet-words.

Microsoft
Redemption is key for Microsoft with Head of the Xbox Division Don Mattrick departing to take the helm at an even faster-sinking ship over at Zynga and the lead on the OS side of the box has left to work at Sonos. If this article by Edge (and the analysis of the best over-promiser in the industry Peter Molyneux) is anything to go by, Microsoft may have the vision to turn their troubled times around and maybe announce more core-friendly changes and additions akin to the dropping of the Kinect.

EA
Like Microsoft, John Riccitello's leaving could hopefully lead to a turning point for EA which has been disappointing many people with poor server issues stopping people from playing and the notably bad F2P-ification of Dungeon Keeper and Plants vs Zombies 2. I was particularly saddened in 2013 by Yogify, an iOS app not about turning things into a fellow BFVG member, but about Yoga.

Mirrors Edge 2 and Star Wars Battlefront sound great but I really want to see if they are even going to attempt to find another old EA or PopCap franchise to wring dry and ruin fond memories of. I also want to see what celebrities they will roll out. One of the best being where RnB songman, Drake came out showing his love for FIFA 14.

It would be great to see some humility which they have definitely shown in press releases they are capable of it (see: SimCity, Command and Conquer)  with the amount of missteps (or larger steps into vats of customer-loyalty-acid).

Ubisoft
Out of all the press conferences, I tend to love Ubisoft's the most. I used to love the press conferences for their cringeworthy attempts at humour. Aisha Tyler still has lines that make your insides die a little but its definitely an improvement from Community's Joel McHale, Mr. Caffeine and whoever-the-hell Tobuscus is.

Ubisoft tends to show the most interesting and diverse range of games which can lead to great misfires, last year we had a second helping of Watch Dogs plus The Division, The Crew, Trials, Rocksmith 2014, Assassin's Creed 4, Splinter Cell and more but we also got to see the strange and yet to be released Rabbids Invasion: The Interactive TV Show.

One thing I am still waiting for is when the UbiArt Framework (the engine behind the recent Rayman games, Child of Light and Valiant Hearts) gets released for the public. It was promised by Michel Ancel back when Rayman Origins came out and I bloody want it now.

Sony
For the most part Sony is looking to keep the positive momentum of last year's E3 going with more game announcements and services. Their Playstation Plus offering seems to be improving with 2 games for PS3, PS4 and Vita every month which makes it hard to think how they can improve it.

Project Morpheus, Sony's VR unit is making rounds on mainstream media (Jimmy Fallon and Channing Tatum had a go)  so it seems likely that it will get another showing at E3. Hopefully they may start talking about games internal studios are building to show their support. I hope it gets a release date and price but I think that is wishful thinking. Let's just hope it receives some more support (read: some actual support) than the Move did.

I'm excited now and realise this entire post was aimless. So I'm giving this post a 4 out of 10.

Oh Yeah Nintendo!
With the Mario Maker rumours abound, anything goes with Nintendo. They are on their own course and their online presentation may show whether they want to continue their focus on the dwindling WiiU or play safe with the 3DS. They are in their quandry of whether to continue making games on their existing cash cows. The problem is Nintendo are not in the business of making anything gritty and so their new properties that are very real get buried because people don't want to consider Pushmo or Dillon as a new worthwhile IP. And that's why we're getting Kirby's Epic Yarn 2 Yarn Yoshi.
