FLASH (games) A-AAH: Icarus Proudbottom Teaches Typing

Typing is extremely important. If it wasn't for typing, I wouldn't be able to communicate to you, dear reader, in this format. If you are new to this whole punching-buttons-in-order-to-get-letters-to-show-up-on-that-shiny-picture-box then Icarus Proudbottom Teaches Typing will get you on the right track.

Developed by Holy Wow Studios, the game was entered for a Something Awful GameDev Competition challenging developers to produce a game in 30 days under the competition's theme 'subversive edutainment'.

After an introduction honoring the virtue of typing you are welcomed by Icarus Proudbottom and his animal spirit friend asking you to complete an entirely irrelevant character creation screen including such attributes to play around with such as 'Optimism', 'Respect of Typing' and 'Swagger'.

There are enough mechanics to keep the game interesting even though it only serves to push the story along which starts jovial and frivolous but becomes more sinister after every interaction with a mysterious man donning a suit and sunglasses telling you to type your legal rights away.

The game manages to avoid overstaying it's welcome and amps up the ridiculousness teaching you through typing code to hack a computer's files and typing evil-banishing incantations in Spanish.

WHY THE HELL ARE YOU AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE PLAY THE SODDING GAME ALREADY.

  1. Awesome game. Typing games may have peaked with Typing of the Dead, though (for sheer insanity)

  2. It is not sufficient to be good at Flash, you need to actually work on a variety of other abilities and skills as well, and so the Flash developer has to contend with things such as the creation of graphics, sound files, music. Motu Patlu Games
