BFVG Dream League of Dreams Week 1

The players left the dressing room after a rousing pre-match team talk from their gaffer. Making their way down the tunnel the butterflies in their stomach began to flutter. They were only to aware of the responsibilities that now weigh heavily on their shoulders. This was it, this was the moment that they had all been training so hard for. Because today was not just any day, today they would embark on a journey that would either take them down the road to success and glory, or down the path to failure and obscurity. Today was match day!

As explained in a recent post we had recently set up a PES 14 league in which we would each manage a team and all of the games would be streamed live on Twitch. The evening of the 19th of October 2013 was the official launch of BFVG DLOD (Best Friends Video Games Dream League of Dreams) and it would not disappoint.

Team Katamari 0-0 Rainbow Death Monkeys

Team Katamari take on Rainbow Death Monkeys in
the first game of the year
The first game of the day would see Team Katamari host Rainbow Death Monkeys. Team Katamari immediately took the game to the opposition dominating the first periods of the game. Mata and Dembele bossed the midfield and looked to push forward early on. A defensive error by Diara led to Rooney attempting an ambitious 30 yard shot that fell in to the arms of the keeper. 20 minutes later Dembele found himself 8 yards out when a beautiful cross came in from the right, all he could do was attempt an ambitious overhead shot that clattered into the side netting. Much of the same continued into the second half and a late chance fell to Jelavic however he could not beat the in form Pantilimon who would claim the man of the match award.

Dalewin Town 0-1 Di Canio's Doubters

This game would not only end the bitter rivalry between the two teams but also the long running family feud. As Dalewin Town managed by Fingers333 would take on the team managed by his brother Neil24's Di Canio's Doubters. The game get off to a lively start with both teams creating chances and the ball being past around the park beautifully. Van Persie and Ageuro were causing problems for both teams back four. However it would be Defoe that would score the only goal of the game when in the tenth minute he pounced upon a defensive error by Glen Johnson. He intercepted a weak Johnson pass and buried the ball into the bottom corner of the net. Tempers were high as crunching tackles came flying in from both teams, the referee tried to allow the game to flow refusing to take out any of his cards.
The only real chance for Dalewin Town fell to Van Persie in the 30th minute who could only find the side netting. The game ended With a famous Di Canio's Doubters win. Dalewin Town manager was furious, claiming at a post match press conference that the referee, 'clearly wasn't paying attention'. He later went on to claim that, 'he was not fit to manage at the under 6 level yet alone at the highest level in the country'. FAFF (Federal Association For Football) later released a statement stating that, 'the Dalewin Town manager risks a 3 match touchline ban if he does not apologies within 24 hours for his comments on the match official'.

Professor Layton Orient 0-0 Team Jeffica

Team Jeffica's ability to hold onto possession
 earns them a vital point
Team Jeffica manager went into this game looking to try and claim a valuable point in a game that most pundits believed would end in a draw. Choosing to play the possession game manager Hairwire looked to grind out a result by out passing the opposition. The game seemed to be going exactly to plan as after the first half the game saw only one chance created. Ozil managed to squirm his way through the Team Jeffica defense, however his shot took a massive deflection falling safely into the arms of De Gea. As the teams came out for the second half they seemed far more fired up. both teams had thier moments however neither of them could capitalise and the game would end in a scoreless draw, each manager seemingly happy taking away a single point.

The Puggernauts 0-0 Football United

Formation described as 'Ambitios' by ex Defender
 Gerry Taggart
This game had all the potential to be an extremely one sided affair as The Puggernauts were expected to take all three points from their first game of the season against Football United. To add further fuel to the fire, Football united went into the game with a formation that most agreed was 'experimental' playing many players out of their traditional positions. This did not dishearten the Fotball United players as the early chances fell to them. Agbonglahor would play havoc with the Puggernaut back four, getting behind the defensive line on a number of occasions. The first real chance of the game however fell to The Puggernauts when a sublime cross came in from Ivanovic. Gouffran managed to neatly bring the ball down before turning and striking a shot straight onto the near post. Half way through the second half there were fears that Suarez may have been injured as he went down after a seemingly innocuous tackle from Joe Bennett. He managed to shake off the knock and played the full 90 minutes. The Puggernauts piled the pressure on as the game went on and the best chance came from Milner as he rattled a powerful header against the Cross bar. The game would end with the Football United manager the happier of the two as they took a point away from home.

The Birmingham Alabamas 0-0 Team Dean

A simple ball from Ben Arfa could seal all three points
No one knew how this match would end. Both teams went into it with very different approaches. One thing however was for certain from the kick off, this was going to be an action packed game. Not long after the game began The Birmingham Alabamas had a number of chances. Dzeko and Lukaku were proving a very powerful attacking force and managed to get a number of shots off in the first half. The most noticeable came in the 31st minute when Lukaku managed to find Dzeko on the penalty spot with a stunning short ball. Dzeko quickly turned and unleashed a powerful effort but was expertly blocked by a well timed slide. The domination continued in the second half. Chance after chance came for The Birmingham Alabamas with the best of them falling to Ben Arfa who mearly had to play a simple pass to Jerome. However he could not find his target and the ball was intercepted and cleared by Team Dean defender McShane.

The Yuletide Yeddeling Yankee Yogis 1-1 The Lostwithiel Left-Feet

The last game of the day saw The YYY play The Lostwithiel Left-Feet in a game that would prove to be the most exciting of the day. The first goal came from Samuel Eto'o as he scored a real poachers goal in the 24th minute. He took the ball off defender Monk as he scrambled to get a poor pass out of his own box. Eto'o calmly knocked the ball around the opposing goal keeper and into the back net. It took only 7 minutes for the Lostwithiel Left-Feet to find the equaliser. A stunning ball from Wisdom played over the heads of The YYY's back four was brought down superbly by Helenius who needed only two touches to smash the ball past Friedel. The action continued in the second half as chances went a begging for both teams however neither could take advantage of the countless opportunities put before them and the game would end one a piece. After the game Lostwithiel Left-Feet manager, Theris108 stated that, 'Helenius's strike will go down as one of the best in his career'.
